In this course, students will complete training to acquire the
reading skills required for success in university classes. During
fall semester, the focus will be primarily on collection of related
materials and comparing them to the text. There will be
assignments every week in class. This course will help students develop the reading skills necessary for success in university classes. Students will read from a wide range of texts, including newspaper articles, short essays, and reviews, etc., and summarize and discuss their opinions and their understanding of the content in order to develop their understanding. They will also obtain the background information necessary to understand texts about Japanese history, culture, and thought patterns. learning about structure and various expressions appropriate for
essay writing, through short composition writing practice,
homework feedback, and lectures. ・Students will be able to write essays of about 2000 characters in length on social and cultural themes that include some abstract elements.

This course aims to improve students’ basic oral presentation
ability, as well as the necessary public speaking skills in Japanese
that are a part of university life. Students will complete project

speaking skills in Japanese that are a part of university life,
including oral presentations and report writing about slightly
abstract issues. Students will complete project work, with a focus
on discussions and presentations. Students will be able to improve their ability of oral presentation in university seminar.
