Advanced Bioinorganic Chemistry University of Tsukuba
Course Overview
This course will provide advanced knowledges on physicochemical properties of transition metal complexes, role of metal ions in biological systems, and structure-function relationships in metalloproteins. The following topics will addressed; (1) structural characterization of metalloproteins, (2) characterization of electronic structure of paramagnetic molecules, (3) elucidation of molecular mechanism responsible for biological activities of metalloenzymes using protein engineering techniques, (4) characterization of interaction between metal ions and biological polymers, (5) crystallography of metalloproteins, (6) control of functional properties of biomolecules through their interactions with metal ions, (7) hemoproteins, and (8) electron transfer proteins.
