Course Overview

Natural products play important roles in biological phenomena. This lecture will discuss following issues, (1) the basis of the stereostructure of natural products (amino acids and carbohydrates), (2) chirality and prochirality, (3) point group and symmetry elements, (4) kinetic resolution and the basis of asymmetric synthesis, (5) stereoselectivity and stereospecificity, (6) conformation of acyclic molecules, (7) conformation of cyclic molecules, (8) the reactions under kinetic or thermodynamic control, (9) steric hindrance, steric acceleration,and stereoelectronic effect, (10) Boldwin's rule.
