Course Overview

This course provides a historical overview on the management style and labor relations from comparisons of social institutions and corporate practices. By taking examples from Japan, Europe and other countries, we would examine how people work and discuss their merits and demerits, their possibilities and challenges.

Better understanding on the economic globalization from historical and comparative view

By reading the textbooks and by reseaching case study in groups, students could develop the recognition of both economic history and the new civil society movements.

1. General-propose competence: critical and creative thinking skills, broad perspective and internationalism.
2. Special competence: understanding international development, analytical skills on international development.

Curiosity to the economic history, the social and international problems

Grading Philosophy

Final report: 60%, Class participation: 30%, Presentation:10%

Course schedule

Week 1. Orientation, decision of the presenters and research groups
Week 2-7. Reading textbooks and learning the basic facts of the world commodities
Week 8-10. Presentation of the research groups about particular theme of the world commodities
