Comprehensive Japanese 1 B University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

Students will become able to participate in simple daily
communicative activities. Regarding speaking and listening skills,
students will be able to understand simple sentences and easy
complex sentences, and produce simple sentences. Regarding
reading and writing skills, students will be able to read and write
simple compositions about familiar themes in hiragana, katakana,
and kanji studied in class.

Learning Achievement

Students will become able to participate in simple daily communicative activities, such as giving a self introduction, though assistance and scaffolding may be required. In the skill areas of speaking and listening, students will develop the ability to understand simple and easy compound sentences, and to produce simple sentences. In the areas of reading and writing, students will become able to understand and produce simple compositions on daily topics, appropriately using Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji.

Competence

Course prerequisites

This class is limited to short-term exchange students (undergrad). Students should have little or no previous Japanese study. Ability to read and write Hiragana/Katakana is desirable.

Grading Philosophy

Midterm exam 40%, Final exam 40%, In-class activities 20%
