Comprehensive Japanese 6 Grammar A University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

Students will learn and be able to use upper-intermediate to advanced grammar.

Learning Achievement

To master Japanese grammar necessary to write reports and papers in Japanese.
To be able to read and write compositions using upper-intermediate level grammar.

Course prerequisites

Students have to certify this subject fits their level by taking the placement test (http://ttbj-tsukuba.org/) or by passing a subject one level below this subject.

Grading Philosophy

Quizzes 20%, Homework 30%, Mid-term Exam 25%, Final Exam 25%
Note that grades from A+ to C are to be determined based on the total score.

L3 Using "koto" and "no" properly: How to use the noun clauses "koto" and "no"
L4 Simplifying the sentence: Nominalization of words and clauses
L5 Choosing vocabulary appropriately: Using vocabulary common to reports and papers
L6 Making sentences coherent: Correspondence between beginning and end of sentences
L7 Using similar expressions properly: Using words equivalent to particles
Mid-term test & Assignment, Feedback, Discussion
L8 Using "wa" and "ga" properly: Using particles "wa" and "ga" properly
L9 Showing the writer's perspective: Transitive verbs / Intransitive verbs (Causative form / Passive form)
L10 Showing the connection between past and present: ru-form, ta-form, teitu-form, teita-form
L11 Pointing out words in a sentence: Different use of the demonstratives "ko" and "so"
L12 Giving the context: Proper use of conjunctions and subjunctive expressions
L13 Connecting to the previous sentence: How to use "no da" sentences
L14 Expressing opinions effectively ? How to correctly use sentence endings to express opinions
Final Test
