Course Overview
Students will be able to speak and write compositions about what they think of the highly specialized things they read for class.
Learning Achievement
Students will be able to: ・read news articles etc. and write appropriate summaries of them based on certain understanding of contents and structure. ・read materials such as narratives, essays etc. and write an opinion essay or short paper about them. ・write a clear, well-structured composition mindful of their target reader.

Course prerequisites
Students must possess reading comprehension skills that allow them to understand news articles, and have writing skills and knowledge of kanji and vocabulary to be able to write about these. A level equivalent to Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Level N1 is desirable.
Grading Philosophy
Compositions 30%, Midterm review report 30%, Final report 40%
