Cybernics University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

Cybernics is a new academic field where humans, robots and information systems are fused. From this novel approach, human evolution has been expanded from the physical space to the cyber-physical space. The “Cybernics space” is composed of “human + cyber physical space” where further human evolution can take place. This class is focused on cybernetics, mechatronics, and informatics from the perspectives of medical and social innovation while studying and implementing the basics of Cybernics that integrates brain and neurology, behavioral sciences, robotics, AI, IT technology, physiology, psychology, system integration technologies, big data, law, ethics, philosophy and management.

Learning Achievement

1. The student should be able to understand the basic physiological mechanisms involved in the generation of movement mediated by the nervous system and musculoskeletal system, and express them explicitly.
2. Through analogies between artificial objects and living organisms, the student should be able to describe these scenarios from the Cybernics view point in order to design and analyze new systems that integrate different fields.
3. The student should be able to identify “combined human/AI robot/information system” scenarios that connects people and technology. Such scenarios will be address by using a Cybernic approach with continuous feedback for improvement with the aim to build processes for social implementation.

Competence

This class corresponds to “Advanced expertise and Operational ability in the field of system information engineering”.

Course prerequisites

Grading Philosophy

Class attendance is taken as a matter of course and evaluated by class report (60%) and presentation (40%).

Course schedule

The class will be promoted by actively conducting discussions using reference materials, board writing, videos, and consideration will be given to deepening understanding through interactive exchanges. Work on capacity building through report submissions and team presentations.
