Experimental Linguistics and Phonetics University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

This course provides advanced analytic skills including Praat scripting and statistical analyses. Each student will carry out a research project in experimental phonetics/linguistics.

Learning Achievement

1) To formulate a question and develop a research proposal in phonetics/linguistics
2) To understand the value and limitations of quantitative analysis

Course prerequisites

Prerequisites are "Experimental Phonetics" and "Experimental Linguistics".

Course schedule

This course discusses research in phonetics with particular attention given to the interfaces between prosody and other subfields in linguistics. Students are expected to carry out an experiment and write a research paper on relevant topic.
