Formation and Evolution of Galaxies University of Sao Paulo

Course Overview

In this course we will discuss the main scenarios for the formation and evolution of galaxies in order to enable the students to know the main recent advances in the area and also to expose them to the questions and challenges still open. Some content discussed in other disciplines, especially Extragalactic Astronomy, will be briefly reviewed.

Learning Achievement

The question of the origin and evolution of galaxies is one of the most important research topics in the present day in extragalactic astronomy and cosmology, both theoretically and observationally. The techniques used are quite varied and useful in various areas of research. The course should provide the elements for students to track progress in this area
