Course Overview

The course offers an introduction to international trade theory and policy. Trade theory deals with
two man questions, that is, why countries trade with each other and how trade impacts welfare
levels of the economies involved. Trade policy examines how government restrictions on trade
affect trade flows and welfare levels. Finally, the course covers the fundamentals of the world
trading system (WTO – World Trade Organisation).

Learning Achievement

The participants understand and apply fundamental theories of international trade. Predominately,
this applies in form of a graphical analysis of general equilibrium models. Participants are able to
explain the effects of various government restrictions on international trade flows and welfare
levels. They will also apply the trade and welfare impact of different economic shocks.

Qualification targets: The participants learn to understand and apply theories of international trade. Predominately, this applies in form of a graphical analysis of partial and general equilibrium models.
