Course Overview

Learning objectives:

- Acquire theoretical knowledge regarding the state of the art in
cardiac physiology and understand how these knowledge were acquired
- Be able to mobilize this knowledge for the recognition, diagnosis,
evaluation, treatment and follow-up of heart failure and electrical
disorders

Learning Achievement

Competence

Course prerequisites

-
Prerequisites on heart function, homeostasis of circulation,
bioenergetics and electrophysiology of the heart will be accessible on
a numeric platform dedicated to the Master

-
This program is taught entirely in English, proficiency in English is
therefore required (CEFR level B2).

In case of failure, a second session will be held, consisting of an
oral presentation and interrogation after self-study of an additional
subject.

Course schedule

The content will include:

-
Mechanics of heart function studied at different integration levels:
subcellular, cellular, organ, entire organ

-
Energy metabolism of the heart and energetics of heart contraction and
relaxation

-
Electrophysiology of the heart at different levels of integration: sub
cellular, cellular and entire organ

-
Interplay between mechanics, bioenergetics and electrophysiology of
the heart

Course type

Standard classroom, e-learning, tutorials, practical work The course will focus on the key concepts of cardiac function, bio-energetics and electrophysiology. For each module, content delivery will be hybrid, with the following sequence: - Self-study (documents available on an online platform) - Lectures and Complementary seminars - Tutorials: Critical analysis of scientific articles - Practical work (experimentations) at the laboratory During the tutorials and practicals, students are split into small (3person) groups of different backgrounds. - 82 contact hours (58h lectures, 6h tutorials, 16h practicals, 2h exam) - 100 hours self-study (35h e-learning, 20h exam preparation, 45hgroup work: scientific article analysis and practical work reports)
