Fundamental Lecture: Theory of Design Analysis University of Tsukuba
Course Overview
Design should not stop at being just a intuitive expression of the designer. It should provide aesthetic values and contribute to the better society. In order to better understand the information in design process, we need to understand what is data, how can we obtain data from investigation and evaluaiton, and how to analyze data and make insightful discussion.
Learning Achievement
To understand the characteristics of data as the basis of design. Students are expected to be able to collect data and conduct statistical analysis in proper ways, discuss the result and apply to design process.
Competence
(Generic Competence) Communication ability, critical thinking, creativity, data literacy, internationality, cooperativeness, self management. (Specific Competence) Creative expresiveness, problem solving, logical thinking, etc.
Course prerequisites
No requirements. Although students are recommended but not mandatory to take the class 「Design evaluation and empirical research」as well.
Grading Philosophy
Will be judged though Report(50%) and whether the student has acquired the basic ability of using statistical analysis(50%). Among A~D, the students must get at least C to receive credit.
