Course Overview
This course examines the theories, applications and case studies associated with the notion of the ‘Green Economy’. A comprehensive introduction to the theories and concepts of green economy is offered, drawing specifically from environmental economics and political ecology approaches. The course will also give insights into the application of eco-business concepts and models with reference given to local and international case studies. The course also provides participants with the current international and Malaysian policy context in relation to new venture creation, eco-business start-ups using innovation and design thinking. Industry speakers with experience of successful eco-businesses will present their perspectives during the course.
Learning Achievement
1. Analyze the key theories and concepts of a Green Economy, showing understanding of their contested nature against traditional models of economic development. 2. Construct international and regional green initiatives and support services to foster green economy. 3. Produce an eco-business start-up proposal, including economic feasibility, environmental and social dimensions, potential risks, and long-term sustainability.
