Course Overview

Through precise reading of the important texts of Japanese ethical thought, this course will explore its significance and impact on the ethical thought. Main material of this year will be the classics of Kokugaku and Bushido in the early-modern Japan and ethical thoughts cultivated within them will be overviewed.

Learning Achievement

日本近世の儒学・国学・武士道に多大な影響を与え、近代以降の国家をめぐる思想の源流をもなした『太平記』を精読し、その特質を把握する。
あわせて代表的な武士道書『葉隠』を原文で講読し、前近代倫理思想の史料の取り扱い方を身につける。
ただし講読予定書目は暫定的なもので、受講者の関心・専攻に従って適宜変更する場合がある。

Grading Philosophy

担当範囲についての発表と議論の中での授業への貢献度、また最終レポートによって総合的に評価する。

Course schedule

講義の前半三十分を『葉隠』佐賀県立図書館所蔵の諸本の講読とし、残りを『太平記』の講読および発表とする。
