Course Overview
This course will present the theories and practical technologies concerned with sustainable and integrated management of solid waste including municipal solid waste, industrial solid waste and sewage treatment sludge. The course will cover in detail commonly implemented treatment and disposal technologies, and material and energy recovery technologies. Principles of these technologies will also be explained. Emphasis is placed on the past experience and the current issues of other nations, and the specificities of the domestic issues, conditions and status. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to i) analyse the collected data and information, ii) select appropriate unit processes and system and iii) conduct basic calculations to determine the specifications of the selected solid waste management facilities in order to establish an preliminary design of integrated solid waste management system with sustainability as well as public health and safety with the first priority.
