Introduction to Linguistics University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

This course covers the historical background, methodology, and analytical methods of scientific linguistic research while considering the nature of human language.

Learning Achievement

Enable students to acquire basic knowledge and methods for scientifically conducting research on language.

Related to major competence: “1. Linguistic phenomena analytical ability.”

Course prerequisites

Students should have preferably chosen “The Science of Language” (Gengo no kagaku)

Grading Philosophy

Students will be assessed based on a review of quizzes administered in each class (50%) and an end-of-semester exam (50%).
