Japanese 7 Listening 1A (Pre-advanced) University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

This course will make use of listening materials of about 5 minutes in length, relatively low clarity, and from a wide variety of specialized topics. Students will be able to discern intentions not made explicit, sound changes, and the type of relationship between speakers (e.g. based on intimacy and hierarchy).

Learning Achievement

Listening material about five minutes long will be used in class on a relatively wide range of specialized topics and will allow students to pick up and take note of necessary information and understand and summarize the content.
Adding to the objectives as those of the J6 class, students will learn to understand the speech while predicting its development. They will be able to understand the unuttered intention of the speaker, identify changes in sound (difficulties), understand onomatopoeia, and will also be able to make inferences about interpersonal relationships (based on familiarity/intimacy and hierarchy) using honorific language to serve as a clue.
