Course Overview

Students will be able to logically explain and debate about social issues. They will have discussions and present in groups about topics of interest to them. By stating their opinions in relation to others', they will be able to have deeper and more fulfilling discussions.

Learning Achievement

Students will be able to talk about social issues using some data. They will be able to have discussions based on evidence, and make presentations based on their specialties or area of interest.

Competence

Course prerequisites

Students should have speaking abilities equivalent to Speaking Level 6. They must have the proficiency to talk to some degree about social concerns (e.g. differences in customs, current events, etc).

Grading Philosophy

Homework 30%, Quizzes 30%, Presentation 40%

Course schedule

Week 1: Orientation/Level check
Weeks 2 to 9: Explanation of arguments, group discussions, presentation, etc.
Weeks 10: Feedback session
