Course Overview

In this course, we will read about and discuss various topics relating to minds of Japanese and Japanese culture.

Learning Achievement

1) Gain knowledge of the Japanese perspective of society and it’s value
2) Understand the relationship between the Japanese value and it’s social phenomena (e.g. family, education, generation gaps, technology, communication, etc. )
3) Compare the Japanese social phenomena with those of students’ home countries and understand the differences.

Course schedule

This class is to help students to understand the Japanese unique social values such as minds, senses, values, custom, communication, habits, etc. which are not understood by observation. Students will be able to predict how the Japanese act or respond in a certain situation. The aspects of the Japanese culture will be discussed further with case studies.
