Course Overview

In this course, we will read about and discuss various topics on society and culture relating to Japan and the Japanese.

Learning Achievement

Students will be able to understand a range of issues concerning everyday social life and interaction in Japan.

Class participation, discussion participation: 30%
Preparation of research project, submission of discussion question answers: 30%

Course schedule

This is a three-day intensive course. In the Academic Year 2023, class dates are set for Feb 19, 20 and 22, 2024.
Day 1 (Period 3, 4, 5, 6): General introduction to the course; Visual materials (1); Discussion of the visual materials (1); Presentation information (depending on student numbers, presentations will be individual/pair/group presentations.
Day 2 (Period 3, 4, 5, 6): Visual materials (2); Discussion of the visual materials (2); Deciding on presentation topic, Background research (data collection)
Day 3 (Period 3, 4): Presentations; Overall feedback
