Course Overview
In this course, students will complete training to acquire the reading skills required for success in university classes. During spring semester, the focus will be particularly on summarization. There will be assignments every week in class.
Learning Achievement
This course will help students develop the reading skills necessary for success in university classes. Students will read from a wide range of texts, including newspaper articles, short essays, and reviews, etc., and summarize and discuss their opinions and their understanding of the content in order to develop their understanding. They will also obtain the background information necessary to understand texts about Japanese history, culture, and thought patterns.

Grading Philosophy
Midterm exam 40%, Final exam 40%, Class participation etc. 20%
Course schedule
(1) Grasping content within a time limit.(2) Obtaining a vocabulary level equivalent to that of a Japanese person the same age. (3) Learning about Japanese cultural background and Japanese ways of thinking.

Several hours of preparation will be necessary for each class. Homework will be given through Manaba, so students should complete it before attending class.
