Japanese Reading II-B University of Tsukuba
Course Overview
In this course, students will complete training to acquire the reading skills required for success in university classes. During fall semester, the focus will be primarily on collection of related materials and comparing them to the text. There will be assignments every week in class.
Learning Achievement
This course will help students develop the reading skills necessary for success in university classes. Students will read from a wide range of texts, including newspaper articles, short essays, and reviews, etc., and summarize and discuss their opinions and their understanding of the content in order to develop their understanding. They will also obtain the background information necessary to understand texts about Japanese history, culture, and thought patterns.

Course prerequisites
For 1st and 2nd year regular undergraduate exchange students (gakugun seikisei no ryuugakusei).
Grading Philosophy
Midterm exam 40%, Final exam 40%, Class participation etc. 20%
Course schedule
(1) Grasping content within a time limit.(2) Obtaining a vocabulary level equivalent to that of a Japanese person the same age. (3) Learning about Japanese cultural background and Japanese ways of thinking.

Other information
Several hours of preparation will be necessary for each class. Homework will be given through Manaba, so students should complete it before attending class.
