Course Overview
Students will learn about how kanji conveys meaning, and how to
distinguish between different character forms and structures.
They will study the kanji that appear most often in everyday life
and devise strategies for how to remember them. (BKBL1-11)
Learning Achievement
Students will:
・ be able to understand how kanji are used for symbolic representation and recognize their form and structure.
・ know how to look up kanji they often encounter in everyday situations and devise ways to remember them.

Course prerequisites
For Comprehensive Japanese 1 students who can write hiragana and katakana characters.
Grading Philosophy
Homework 20%, Quizzes 30%, Final test 50%
(Attendance rate of 70% or higher is required)

For undergraduate exchange students (tokubetsu chokogakusei). There is a student number limit.

Details will be given in class or posted on manaba ・ Students must be sufficiently familiar with hiragana by the start of the semester.
・ Review notes and be prepared for weekly quizzes at the start of each lesson.
・The class will be flexible according to the students' level and needs and changes will be made to exercises, tasks, and assignments as necessary.
