Kanji (Beginner: adv) 4-1B University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

Students will learn kanji vocabulary from the latter half of the basic level and be able to differentiate between kunyomi (Japanese) and onyomi (Chinese) readings. They will also be able to read easy reading materials that use kanji with the help of a dictionary, and write simple compositions using kanji. (BKB L36-45)

Students will remember kanji vocabulary of the latter half of the basic level and and be able to differentiate kunyomi (Japanese) and onyomi (Chinese) readings. They will also be able to read easy reading material with the help of a dictionary, and write simple compositions using kanji.

Competence

Course prerequisites

Students should have proficiency of Level J3 or higher. It is desired that they can write hiragana and katakana and have completed Level K3.

Grading Philosophy

Homework 30%, Quizzes 30%, Final test 40%
(Attendance rate of 70% or higher is required)
Note that grades from A+ to C are to be determined based on the total score.

Homework will be regularly given. Students are expected to not only learn kanji through classroom drills and homework, but also looking up kanji using a dictionary and through reading material and writing short compositions.
