Kanji (Beginner: mid) 3-1A University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

Students will learn elementary kanji vocabulary, and distinguish correctly between kunyomi (Japanese) and onyomi (Chinese) readings. They will be able to read easy reading materials that use kanji, and write simple sentences using kanji. (BKB L23-35)

Competence

Course prerequisites

Students should have proficiency of Level J3 or higher. They must be able to write hiragana and katakana and have completed Level K2.

Grading Philosophy

Homework 20%, Quizzes 20%, Final exam 60%
(Attendance rate of 70% or higher is required)

Course schedule

Week 1: Orientation/Level check
Weeks 2 to 9: Introduction of kanji, one or two chapters a week
Week 10: Final exam
※Lessons 23 to 35 of Basic Kanji Book Vol. 2 will be covered over the course of the semester.

Other information

Students should regularly turn in homework. Students are expected to learn kanji through classroom drills and homework, and to read and write sentences using kanji they have learned.
