Kanji (Pre-advanced) 7B University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

Students will be able to properly distinguish and use vocabulary depending on their specialized fields, such as educational psychology in the humanities and science and technology in the sciences, while they learn to read and write advanced level kanji vocabulary. They will also select kanji and kanji vocabulary from reading material they enjoy and learn how to use them for their own purposes. (IKB vol.2 L1-5)

Learning Achievement

・Students will be able to properly distinguish and use vocabulary depending on their specialized fields, such as educational psychology in the humanities and science and technology in the sciences, while they learn to read and write advanced level kanji vocabulary.
・Students will also select kanji and kanji vocabulary from reading material they enjoy and learn how to use them for their own purposes.

Course prerequisites

Students have to certify this subject fits their level by taking the
placement test (http://ttbj-tsukuba.org/) or by passing a subject one level below this subject.

Grading Philosophy

Homework 30%, Quizzes 30%, Final exam 40%
(Attendance rate of 70% or higher is required)
Note that grades from A+ to C are to be determined based on the total score.

Course schedule

Lessons 1 to 5 of Intermediate Kanji Book Vol. 2 will be covered over the course of the semester. However, depending on the level of the students, the class schedule might change.

This course uses manaba for learning. Students should hand in homework on the appointed day. They are expected to not only learn kanji from the textbook, but to be proactive in acquiring essential kanji vocabulary and mastering them through use.
