Course Overview
Urban development should be guided by a sustainable planning and management vision that promotes interconnected green space, a multi-modal transportation system, and mixed-use development. Smart partnership among private and government should be used to create sustainable and liveable communities that protect historic, cultural, and environmental resources and at the same time reduce pollution and create a balance between built and natural systems. This course discusses the important aspects that affect the sustainability of cities and the concepts as well as approaches taken to create a more sustainable city. Students will be equipped with sufficient knowledge on the theories and principles of sustainable cities for an environmentally friendly design.
Learning Achievement
1. Appraise a given city or building taking into consideration sustainable urbanism principles 2. Differentiate effective solutions to the current urban areas to be sustainable, while working in a team. 3. Propose a new urban design by applying the theories of the regional city and sustainable urbanism to various regions, cities, neighborhoods and communities.
