Metabolic Biochemistry University of Bordeaux
Course Overview
OBJECTIVES: - To understand the functioning and regulation of the main pathways ofmetabolism SKILLS ACQUIRED: Appropriate basic notions in metabolicbiochemistry and enzymology at the molecular, cellular and bodylevels. Know the main pathways of anabolism and catabolism of sugarsand lipids. Connect these metabolic pathways to the Krebs cycle andoxidative phosphorylation.KEY WORDS: Metabolism - Carbohydrates - Oxidative phosphorylation -Lipids – Enzyme regulation.

Course prerequisites
- first year academic level is required, especially in basicbiochemistry - no language prerequisite - internet connection is required to download teaching materials(e.g. slides) and for online self-evaluations
Grading Philosophy
Assessment based on:1) a terminal written examination - Length of assessment = 1 h 30 - 70 % weight of overall mark - at the end of the semester (in May)2) Moodle test - Length of assessment = 30 min - 30 % weight of overall mark - in the middle of the semester (in March) In case of failure (mark < 10 / 20 in Metabolic Biochemistry andEnzymology), student has a second session of exam with only a writtenexamination (100% weight of overall mark)) in JuneB. In case of secondfailure, compensation can take place within the semester using theoverall marks of other modules.
