Mineralogy and Petrology University of Tsukuba
This lecture provides basic knowledge for various minerals and rocks in the earth's surface and interior. Main purposes are to learn classification, basic principles and processes of the formations of the minerals and rocks (mainly igneous and metamorphic rocks) in the earth.
Students will be engaged in acheiving general knowledge and comprehensive understandings of the constituent materials of earth and their changes, by learning various kinds of minerals and rocks, their generation and formation mechnism in earth's surface and interior, and meteorites from the outside.
This coursework links up with the academic goal as stated below
Evaluation will be based on class attendance (20 %) and final examination result (80 %)
We provide lectures for rock-forming minerals and their generation mechanisms, and also igneous and metamorphic rocks with their generation and evolution processes. Global igneous and orogenic activities are also included in hte lectures.Introduction to mineralogyClassification and structural features of minerals-1Classification and structural features of minerals-2Physical properties and formation processes of minerals-1Physical properties and formation processes of minerals-2Classification of igneous rocksGeneration and evolution of magma (igneous rocks)Classification of metamorphic rocksFormation processes of metamorphic rocks and orogenyGlobal orogenic and magmatic cycles in the Earth's history
