Olympic and Paralympic History University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

In this class, we will learn the history of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games especially on the origin, the process of development and the challenges for future. Specifically, we focus on the history of the ancient Olympics (ancient Games in Greece), the revival of the Olympics in modern times, Olympic (and Paralympic) movement in Japan, the Stoke mandeville games and the Paralympics, etc.

Learning Achievement

To due the COVID-19 crisis, this course will be held online.
Online synchronous courses may be adopted if the situation changes.
Online Tools: Manaba, MS Teams (MS stream)
Materials or information will be disseminated through manaba.
Short reports will be tasked after every class.
Final assignment will be tasked after the 10th class for submission by the end of December.

Course prerequisites

Students will be expected to have successfully completed to investigate of their own countries' history of the Games.

Grading Philosophy

Attendance: Short report (related to each class)
Final grade will be determined by the short reports and final assignment.
Final assignment (report) will be an important component of students' final grade.
