Olympic Movement Studies University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

In this class, we will learn the hisotry and develompmet of Olympic (and Paralympic) Movement and discuss the future. Especially, we focus on the difinition of the Olympic Movement, the process of Olympic Movement in Japan, the Olympic Movement beyond Tokyo 2020, etc. The topics of the Paralympics are also treated.

Learning Achievement

To due the COVID-19 crisis, this course will be held online.
Online synchronous courses may be adopted if the situation changes.
Online Tool: Manaba, MS Teams (MS stream)
Materials or information will be disseminated through manaba.
Short reports will be tasked after every class.
Final assignment will be tasked after the 10th class for submission by the end of December.

Course prerequisites

Students will be expected to have completed an investigation of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement and the Olympic Idea as it relates to their own respective country/community.

Grading Philosophy

Attendance: Short report (related to each class)
Final grade will be determined by the short reports and final assignment.
Final assignment (report) will be an important component of students' final grade.
