Course schedule

Satellite remote sensing, which is a technology for observing Earth from space, is becoming a crucial tools for sustainable development goals (SDG), especially the topics related to food production, disaster mitigation, climate change, and landcover changes such as deforestation, desertification, and urbanization. It allows people to monitor our planet and find the problems and chances which occur anywhere in the world everyday. This class introduces this technology with its basic principles (mainly physics) and application. We will perform laboratory experiments which demonstrate the principles. At the closing of the class, we will visit JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) Tsukuba Space Center, where is one of the centers of real satellite remote sensing operation. The class will be delivered in simple and plain English. We wish both foreign students and Japanese students to join together and work together. Because this is an introductory class, we assume little knowledge of the students. Basic knowledge of physics is desirable, but you can enjoy the class even if without it. Group works will take place at every lecture, giving the attendants opportunities of making friends with each other.
