Scientific Complement for Chemistry (CSC3) and Organic Chemistry (CO5) University of Bordeaux

Course Overview

This class CSC3 is the second part of Organic Chemistry 5 (CO5). 
CO5 is an advanced course on mechanism and methods to determine them
in organic chemistry.
CSC3 is an overview of the backgrounds in biology, required for the
next courses concerning societal challenges of chemistry in term of
medicine or environment.

High-school diploma. 

Grading Philosophy

2 WRITTEN EXAMS:

- exam - 1h30, 30% weight of overall mark
- final exam - 1h30, 70% weight of overallmark (May)

The first session takes place in May.

In case of failure, a second session is organized for the final exam,
either as a written final exam or an oral session depending on the
number of failed students. This 2nd session takes place at the end of
June.

Course schedule

CO5

- Thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of molecular chemistry
- Study of isotopic effects on reactivity
- Determination of Hammet constants and impact on nucleophilic
substitution and elimination reactions
- Study of solvent effects on reactivity

CSC3

- Physiology
- Cellular biology
- Structure of biomolecules and analysis by spectroscopy (UV-Visible,
circular dichroism and IR)
