Simulation of complex physical processes in COMSOL Multiphysics Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

Course Overview

The purpose of the course is to familiarize the PhD students with the capabilities of the Comsol Multiphysics software. In particular, to teach how to work with CFD module where all the necessary equations for solving the hydrodynamics problems exist and also simulation of complex physical processes in Comsol Multiphysics.

Learning Achievement

Students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge gained on the basic concepts of the hydrodynamics and the methods of solving problems and their understanding

Course prerequisites

Fundamentals of Differential equations, Equations of Mathematical Physics, Continuum Mechanics, Numerical Methods, Fluid Mechanics

Grading Philosophy

Exams (25%), Activity in classromm (75%)

Course schedule

Week1: Introduction to Comsol Multiphysics. Week2: Familiarization with interface of Comsol Multiphysics. Classification of differential equations. Parabolic, hyperbolic and elliptic equations. Heat equation. Week3: COMSOL Desktop. Creating a New Model. The Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar. The Model Builder and the Model Tree
