Sociology of Migration University of Tsukuba

Course Overview

This course aims to analyze international migration focusing on key themes for understanding this social phenomenon. To this end, topics such as gender and migration, transnational communities, migration policies will be addressed through a sociological and multidisciplinary perspective.

Learning Achievement

The goal of this course is that students acquire critical knowledge to deeply analyze the multidimensional and multifaceted causes and consequences of international migration and its implications for contemporary society.

Competence

The objective of this course is to offer the student specific knowledge about international migration. It will address the sociological aspect and will also have a multidisciplinary approach to analyze key topics such as transnational social dynamics, gender, the importance of migrant networks, and an issue of paramount importance for understanding migratory movements: migration policies adopted by different governments in the world.
