Course Overview

Fundamental ascpects of soils with regard to their genesis, physicochemical properties, management and the related environmental issues will be lectured, and the discussion on some selected topics will be treated as more advanced understanding of present status of soils in the changing world.

Learning Achievement

Through the course, students will be able to:
-define what "soil" is.
-understand soil functions in natural and agro-ecosystems.
-point out the relationships between soil degradation and environmental issues.

Course schedule

This lecture deal with basic soil concept, basic soil chemistry, soil functions in ecosystems, soil genesis and classification, soil degradation and conservation, and the relationships between global environmental issues and soil. Students will have brainstorming and group discussions on soil issues.
