Theory of oscillations and vibrations Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

Course Overview

The aim of the course is to master the fundamentals of the theory of oscillations of linear and nonlinear mechanical systems, the basic laws of mechanical vibrations, provide sufficient training for further study of the theory of oscillations in other courses.

For study this course you should know the basic content of the next preceding disciplines: mathematical analysis-1, 2, 3, differential equations, algebra and analytical geometry-1, 2, theoretical mechanics

Course schedule

Week1: Small oscillations of the system near the position of stable equilibrium. Week2: The stability of the equilibrium of a conservative system with one degree of freedom. The stability of the equilibrium of a conservative system with a finite number of degrees of freedom. Sylvester criterion. Week3: Free oscillations of a system with one degree of freedom. The main characteristics of free vibrations.
