Course Overview

LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENTS: 
- to develop oral fluency.  - to develop self-confidence.  - to
become aware of one's strengths and potential in speaking.  - to
develop the ability to prepare a convincing oral intervention.  - to
develop the ability to conduct an introspection on what is
beingsaid.  - to develop active listening skills to understand an
argument.  - to develop a culture of debate in an intercultural
perspective.  - to prepare for a possible international mobility
GENERAL OBJECTIVES: 

The module proposes to work on the acquisition of techniques
andoratory strategies that allow the development of
persuasivecommunication. 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the module, students should have :

- strengthened their oratory skills.  - strengthened their ability
to listen, respect and care for others.  - strengthened their
distrust of sophistry.  - strengthened their intercultural skills.

THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO: 

- master some of the techniques and subtleties of speaking  -
control their emotions.  - construct a well-argued, convincing and
persuasive speech.  - adopt an intercultural approach

Course prerequisites

In order to fully benefit from the workshops, we ask students tohave a
minimum language level: 
- Level B1+ for Eloquence Bonus in English.  - Level B1+ for
international students wishing to participate inworkshops in French
with local students

Grading Philosophy

The evaluation is of two kinds: 
- Continuous individual oral assessment (0,5 %)  - Continuous
individual written assessment (0,5 %) The continuous individual oral
assessment is a summativeevaluation at the end of the semester in the
form of a 3 to 5minutes oral presentation in person or recorded.The
continuous individual written assessment is a writtenevaluation in the
form of a portfolio in which the student answersthe teacher's
questions on his/her progress, involvement andobservations. This
portfolio aims to develop a reflective posture onone's own performance
and that of others.

Course schedule

The sessions are structured around 4 main areas: 
- the body (making students aware of the importance of
physicalresources, with exercises on breathing, voice and breath)  -
introspection.  - structuring the message.  - creativity.

Course type

- Active pedagogy based on situational activities and practicalexercises.  - Pedagogy that mixes the art of classical rhetoric with moremodern forms of speech.  - Horizontal learning to create a climate of trust and interactionbetween all participants.

- 2 groups in English and 2 groups in French each semester. 
- A cover letter and / or an interview can be requested. 
- No more than 3 justified absences to qualify for bonus credits.
